History

Fisher House Foundation is best known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving critical care and for 25 years has supported the total military family.

There are 70 homes located at major military and VA medical centers nationwide, close to the medical center or hospital they serve. Fisher Houses have up to 21 suites, with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a warm dining room and an inviting living room. Fisher House Foundation ensures that there is never a lodging fee. Since inception, the program has saved military and veterans’ families an estimated $282 million in out of pocket costs for lodging and transportation. Over 25,000 families stayed at a Fisher House last year, and that number continues to grow each year as Fisher House Foundation builds new houses at VA and military medical centers with the greatest need.

Fisher House Foundation also operates the Hero Miles program, using donated frequent flyer miles to bring family members to the bedside of injured service members, as well as the Hotels for Heroes program using donated hotel points to allow family members to stay at hotels near medical centers without charge. The Foundation also manages a grant program that supports other military charities and scholarship funds for military children, spouses and children of fallen and disabled veterans.

Major General Harold Greene's Family
MG Harry J. Greene's Family

The Myers Greene family staunchly supports the Fisher House Foundation. The Foundation provides a “home away from home” that supports soldiers and their families. This family's tireless efforts, as part of the Fort Monmouth and Aberdeen Proving Ground communities and the Fisher House Foundation will continue. Their support will help the Foundation in building additional homes to accommodate the needs of our soldiers and their families.

The staff and volunteers at the Fisher House for the Families of Fallen Soldiers at Dover Air Force Base provided the Myers Greene family superb comfort and support as they prepared for the repatriation of their husband and father. The Fisher House Foundation provides this same support for hundreds of other soldiers and their family members every year.

Please keep our military families in your thoughts and prayers and thank you to all that celebrated the 11th annual Fisher House Gala this September.
